Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
