Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn; 1 and the ten nights! 2 by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Join My servants. 29 into My Paradise. 30
