Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the dawn 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
