Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter among My servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
