Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 The night as it advances, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
