Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Join My worshipers and 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
