Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 The night as it advances, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
