Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the particular dawn. 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood - thereupon he says, "My Lord has degraded me!" 16 Not at all - but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
