Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
