Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 And ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
