Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
