Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
