Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
