Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
