Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
