Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And when hell is brought that day on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Join My worshipers and 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
