Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
