Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 by the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 led rebellious lives, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
