Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
