Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
