Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and the ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
