Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
