Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
