Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
