Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My worshipers and 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
