Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and the ten nights! 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
