Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
