Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
