Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
