Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter among My servants 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
