Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
