The Town (Al-Balad)

In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 in which you are now living 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what could make thee conceive what it is, that steep uphill road? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
