Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
