The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
