Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 of an orphaned relative 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
