Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
