The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
