Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
