The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace

۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20

God Almighty has spoken the truth.
