Al-Balad

The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20

True are the words of God the Almighty.
