Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
