Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
