Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
