The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
