Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
