The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
