The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
