Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
