The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate

۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 of an orphaned relative 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
