The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
